PRE PROFESSIONAL course

Picture
The ultimate dance course for those dreaming of a career in dance, don't just dream about it—do it! Train toward your goal in a supportive, inspiring and challenging environment.

DDC's Pre-Professional course is immersive, providing hands on experience for our students with excellent performance opportunities to build their confidence and prepare them for a bright future and career in dance.

Students undertaking their high school and college studies do so via distance education (through Brisbane or Cairns School of Distance Education) alongside their dance studies at DOC. This course allows the student to benefit from a more personalised education experience and an elite dance training program concurrently. Unlike other full–time programs, this structure means that they can be home with their families more often!

NATIONALLY RECOGNISED ACCREDITATION

In 2019 we are offering nationally recognised accreditation, as well as broadening our Pre-Professional course core structure, creating even greater diversity across the weak and even greater benefits for our students.

Students in our Pre-Professional course Levels 3 and 4 will have the opportunity to complete Certificates Ill in Dance CUA301 13 and Certificates IV in Dance CUA40113 respectively. Students opting to move into our Level 5 Extension year will have the opportunity to complete a Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) CUA50113.

Nationally recognised accreditation and qualifications are delivered through an Auspice arrangement with Australian Teachers of Dancing Limited (RTO 31624)

NEW STUDENTS

Dance-Development-Centre-Dancers
Student's wishing to enter the course from another dance school are welcome and should make contact with DDC Director Jackie Hallahan (through the office) prior to auditioning. Students may enter the Pre-Professional course through the year at the Director's discretion.

PERFORMANCE

At DDC we believe performing regularly builds confidence and prepares our students for a bright future in dance. Among other performances throughout the year—such as dance eisteddfods and competitions—our Pre-Professional course students participate in a mid-year performance at the Canberra Theatre alongside our DDC Recreation school. In December of each year the Pre-professional students finish their year with an end of year show. the show is a culmination of their dance training to date and is created on them, giving our dancers the opportunity to work with Choreographers and ultimately challenge themselves.

TESTIMONIALS

"DDC is such a supportive and inspiring environment. The full time course provided me so many great performance opportunities to build confidence and prepared me for the future. DDC's full time training enabled me to become a versatile dancer which is extremely important and exposes me to more opportunities.
I learnt so much from the incredibly experienced and supportive staff of DDC who nurtured me as a full time dancer and helped me grow as an artist. The full time course really helped me prepare for a professional career in so many ways, not only both physically and mentally but also learning so many valuable things such as dance etiquette and what to expect when we graduate from the course which has come to be so helpful. The full time course helped intensify my passion for dance."

"Dance Development Centre's Full Time program offered me what I needed to help me fulfil my dream of making a career in dance. From the program I gained a great understanding of classical technique which is necessary for the industry. It made me a versatile dancer with amazing classes in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Drama, Singing just to name a few. I will forever be grateful for the life changing opportunities the program offered me and would strongly suggest it to anyone who is after a future in dance. As a student at the school I always felt nurtured and made so many close friends I will have for the rest of my life. With incredible direction from Jackie Hallahan the full time program shaped me into the dancer I had always dreamed of becoming."

2016 FULL & PART TIME STUDENTS (CANBERRA)
“DDC’s full and part time programs are perfect for aspiring young dancers. One of the best aspects of the full time program was that it allowed me to train in such a broad range of dance styles. I am so thankful for this exposure to many styles, and different teachers within some styles, as it helped me to become a more versatile dancer – an increasingly important trait for dancers today.”

"Being involved in the full time program for four years at DDC still remains an experience which I am grateful for. It is so good to be exposed to so many genres of dance because you will always find a time to draw upon what you have learnt. There is a professionalism that comes with the course, preparing you for the outside world. The teachers are the driving force behind you, as they are there every step of the way, wanting you to become the best you can be. The course is a stepping stone into the industry!"

"DDC's full time course is the opportunity of a lifetime. Experienced or not the program produces dancers of an exceptional level. It is a tough mix of blood, sweat and tears but the results are incredible. Also the people you meet will become way more than friends, they will be family. From the years of my training I have gained so many life skills. Full time has not only bettered me as a dancer but as a person. It is an opportunity that is not to be missed."
